A People’s Hearing on Fracking — Saturday, June 2, from 10am-4:30pm at Burchfield Penney Art Center

Join us at A People’s Hearing on Fracking on Saturday, June 2, 2012, from 10:00am-4:30pm at the Burchfield Penney Art Center

The collaborative event will include a number of speakers, workshops, a public hearing on hydrofracking, along with art and music. The Sierra Club will be presenting, tabling and hosting a workshop on the proposed CLEAN-FIT Renewable Energy and Green Jobs legislation in New York State.

A summary of Saturday’s event:

A People’s Hearing on Fracking will give Western New Yorkers a chance to publicly state their views in a way that was denied to this region by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) during the DEC’s Fall 2011 draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement on fracking. The DEC held four public Hearings downstate, but none were held in Western New York (WNY).

In view of what is at stake—the irreversible damage to our environment that could result from fracking—the DEC’s snub of WNY cannot go unchallenged. A People’s Hearing on Fracking will provide WNY the Hearing that the DEC should have provided. And, unlike the downstate events staged by DEC, this will be a genuine public hearing where all speakers and all points of view will be heard.

A People’s Hearing on Fracking will deliver a strong message to elected officials and will help further engage and inspire New York State citizens, as well as elected officials, regarding the toxic effects of fracking. We will have a time to testify, workshops, speakers and some fun. Transcripts and video from A People’s Hearing on Fracking will be delivered to elected officials at all levels of government: local, state, national, and international. Live stream video will immediately carry the proceedings to a world stage.

Come testify, learn, collaborate, and engage in political activism!
