An EPIC No Frack Event at Ithaca College on June 25 will feature the broadest lineup of fracking experts ever assembled, as well as dance music, films, and a rally. The all-day event will feature 45 speakers, 6 movies and 10 musicians.
The lineup includes more than a dozen well-known non-industry-connected experts, a former industry insider, as well as people living with the effects of fracking and others who have studied it from various disciplines over the last several years. They will share their vast knowledge and new findings on this dangerous and controversial method of extracting “natural” gas.
The event is being sponsored and organized by Jeff and Jodi Andrysick, farmers-turned-filmmakers from Steuben County, who have gone into $15,000 credit card debt to bring the truth about fracking to the public. Jeff and Jodi created the film “All Fracked-Up”
The couple’s hope is to bring residents from all over New York together to learn about fracking and coalesce as a group that will then bring their concerns to Governor Cuomo and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation.
“New York state gives special treatment to NYC watershed. If fracking is allowed in our state, the gas industry would be required to go through a lengthy, extremely expensive profit-busting environmental impact process. This process would effectively curb the dangerous horizontal fracking in the NYC watershed,” says Jodi Andrysick. “But we don’t have that protection upstate. Why should upstaters be treated as lab rats and be sacrificed? We can’t let them turn upstate into one big Love Canal, a collateral damage nightmare that taxpayers will have to pay for. Let’s not allow ourselves to be disregarded. Let’s protect ourselves.”
Speakers include renowned author and scientist Sandra Steingraber, biogeochemist Robert Howarth, EPA whistleblower Weston Wilson, former gas industry insider James Northrup, Toxics Targeting president Walter Hang, Gasland featured cowboy Rick Roles, Emmy award winning documentary filmmaker Debra Anderson, authors, attorneys, filmmakers, and Pennsylvania, Colorado and New Mexico residents currently living with the effects of fracking. The day is packed with events across two Ithaca College buildings.
The EPIC No Frack Event is sponsored by Jeff and Jodi Andrysick (Donations will be welcome), and cosponsored by Catskill Citizens for Safe Energy, Coalition to Protect New York, and Marcellus Protest.
